Being at the right place at the right time left Spirit of Adventure owner-skipper Mike Keating with a super catch of large yellowfin related to Guadalupe Island. Keating skippered his 27 anglers on a six-day trip.

Ron Goodrich of Pueblo, CO won first place for a 99.7-pound tuna. He said the fish ate his sardine on a 3/0 Super Mutu hook. He fished with 50-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader, 50-pound Big Game line and 60-pound Line One Spectra on an Avet LX 3 reel and a custom Calstar six-foot all roller guide rod.

"I got him in 35 minutes," said Ron at the scales. "He's my best one."

Shawn Little of Hollister won second place for a 95.2-pound tuna. Third place was won by an angler who slipped by Bill Roecker's notebook without leaving a name, for another big yellowfin tuna.
