The trout fishing has been good following Wednesday’s plant, but an overabundance of rain and run off may put a damper on things in the coming week. Fausto Barron of Escondido had big trout honors this week with his 8.90# trout caught using rainbow powerbait on the east end of the lake. Powerbait or mousetails have been effective and no part of the lake is not producing at present. As the water becomes stained, and visibility lessens, try dipping your bait in scent for better results.

Modest numbers of Crappie were being caught prior to the rains. Crappie are most often caught using live golden shiners or mini-jigs.

Catfish, who are less dependent on sight to find food, are often a good option to go after in muddy conditions. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel, or chicken liver.

It was an excellent week of trout fishing with plenty of big trout being recorded. Ken V. of Laguna Niguel led the charge with his 11.60# rainbow caught on a Creme Crawler at Crappie Rock. Other notable catches included Ron Peat’s 11.10# and Jeff Hoffard’s 10.70#. This Wednesday we are stocking trout yet again. Oakvale Cove has been the hottest spot for trout fishing from shore and top water lures like kastmasters have been working well. The long bass bite hiatus...... Read More
