Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday April 20th.
Next Plant: Catfish in summer.
Water temperature: At surface 66.92 f., 7.53 D.O. @ 10’ 67.46 f., 7.57 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.

To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The few trout that remain have migrated west into cooler, deeper waters. The biggest trout of the past week belonged to Rickey Kihle of San Marcos and weighed 9.65#s it was caught on rainbow powerbait at the West Buoy Line.

The bass bite remains solid as they feast on the abundant shad. Mike Bonds of Escondido caught and released a 5.20# largemouth he caught on a rapala lure off Senior Shore. Bass can be found around structure and respond well to crawdads, shad-raps, and dark colored plastics.

Crappie are being caught in small numbers. Wendell Jackson of Escondido weighed in a 1.75# crappie he caught in Boat Dock Cove on a live golden shiner. Crappie prefer the cover of shade or overcast conditions and are most often caught on mini-jigs or live golden shiners.

The catfish bite remains strong throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford catfish bite best on cut mackerel or chicken liver.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
