Fishing has improved this past week with the rising water temperature.

Striper fishing has been better, and we have been seeing more and more anglers coming back with big stringers close to their limits. Even the shoreline fishing has picked up and a lot of stripers have been caught to the right of the marina and near the end of the dam. Sardines, anchovies and lug worms have been the bait fo choice for most lately.

The largemouth have started to bite more aggressively as we get close to the spawn. A lot of males are being caught with the bigger girls being a little harder to find. There are a lot of fish starting to move in shallow but there are a lot of fish being caught around 10-20 feet. Robo worms and senkos have been the soft plastics working for a lot of anglers, usually on the drop-shot or the Ned rig. A lot fo other plastics are also working, you just need to find what they’re more interested in and you can have an awesome day of bass fishing. Green pumpkin, watermelon, pink, smoke, and purple seem to be the best choice in colors.

The catfish have also picked up a little with more with catches coming on anchovies or mackerel fished around muddy coves or good structure.

The bluegill and crappie haven’t been too prevalent yet and your best luck would be down at the lagoon at this time. A couple anglers reported some crappie on wax/ meal worms and small crappie jigs. One bass angler caught one by accident on a soft plastic.

Our last trout plant of the year is coming up on May 4th and will be a kid’s fun fish event on the main launch ramp of the upper lake. They will be netting the trout off from the dock to the dam to make it easier for the kids to catch them. They will then release any remaining trout around noon.

Striper fishing has been steady, and most catches have been coming on sardines, anchovies, blood and lug worms. Nightcrawlers have been working better as of late too. A lot fo big stringers have been seen being lugged up from the shore line...... Read More
