Aqueduct fishing was fair to good last week, with some anglers doing very well while many struggled. Striped bass ate cut sardines and anchovies along inside bends and after check gates. Flat “no roll” sinkers proved key to one angler’s success. Striped bass also took tube baits on a heavy jig head using a lift-and-drop technique. For an excellent tutorial on fishing artificial baits in the aqueduct, anglers can you-tube Fishing the Bakersfield Aqueduct with Steve Merlo. Catfishing was good for those using bait rigs with cut mackerel, fresh shrimp, and chicken liver. Largemouth bass fishing was also good, with anglers drop-shotting 4-inch plastic worms in baitfish and dark green colors. The topwater bite was decent during low-light conditions.
