The trout fishing on Big Bear Lake continues to be wide open! Limits are the rule for trollers, as well as, bait anglers. Surface water temperatures are holding in the 48 degree range and the trout are coming out of spawn. Anglers soaking dough baits and inflated night crawlers from the shore or boat, using a sliding egg sinker and varied leader lengths from one foot to four feet have done well along the Northshore. Trollers have had to work a little bit harder as the fish are moving daily and the lures and colors they are biting also seems to change daily. "Trout Triangle" is the most consistently producing area (Eagle Pt.-Observatory-Lagonita Pt.-Big Bear Marina). Fish are being caught on the surface down to three colors of leadcore. Needlefish in the fire pearl pattern and Rapalas in the fire tiger and fire minnow patterns have done well. The bite will remain hot for weeks to come.

Look for other species to start showing as the water continues to warm and they come out of their winter slumber.
