Trout Fishing Has Been Decent

Castaic Lake - Castaic, CA (Los Angeles County)

by Castaic Lake Staff

Trout fishing has been decent this past week with most fish caught being hold-overs and of bigger size than the usual stocker. Most have come off a nightcrawler and bright or natural colored Power-bait. Some anglers have been having luck off the troll, mainly catching largemouth and trout, not too many stripers have been sighted as of late. Most stripers caught have been down deep off sardines, anchovies, and lug worms.

The largemouth and smallmouth fishing has been steadily improving this past week, but this cold front moving in might change things for the future. Most catches have been off a good old nightcrawler and plastics worms. The Ned-rig and drop-shot has been producing best, mainly with a Robo worm or bait fish colored plastic.

The catfish have been biting cut baits while anglers have been fishing for stripers.

The crappie bite has slowed down a little lately and most catches have been off wax and meal worms or a small crappie jig. The lower lagoon has been putting out a few good reports of decent bass and crappie fishing.

Striped bass have still been a tough bite to get on, and a lot of anglers have been marking them down deep in around 100 feet...... Read More

Some catches have also come off a Kastmaster or small trout swimbait. The Largemouth and Smallmouth bass have been making appearances in better numbers as of late. Most catches have been......
