The trout bite is good thanks to multiple stocks this spring. Shoreline anglers are having success along the north shore between windy point and the boom line Carolina rigging various floating baits including doughs, natural and artificial eggs, mice tails, and inflated night crawlers. Leader lengths have been varying from 18 to 36 inches. They’re not being picky about color. The trick seems to be to not cast too far, the fisher are closer than you think.

Boaters are picking them up drifting the same baits on slip bobbers set between 10 and 15 feet deep between the observatory and windy point or from the mouth of Metcalf bay up toward the dam. Trolling the same locations, as well as the same depths, has also been producing. Small red, pink, or copper spoons, small plugs, and especially night crawlers are the top choices.

The bass have been on the prowl as well. Water temps are hanging around the mid 50’s putting us in pre spawn mode. Covering water with chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, jerk baits or squarebills is triggering aggression bites. If they’re chasing you but not committing, tossing a senko in to pick them off can do the trick.

And don’t forget to bring your bow, the carp are thick!
