The water level held near 34 percent of capacity

Castaic Lake - Castaic, CA (Los Angeles County)

by Chad Burton and Chris Borden

The water level held near 34 percent of capacity, and water temperatures have been in the low eighties. The pattern for large and smallmouth remained the same this week with anglers starting the day throwing poppers, walking baits, and weightless Flukes. Drop shot, Ned rigs, and small swimbaits worked for the remainder of the day. As always, be ready for boiling fish and throw topwater, Kastmasters, or small swimbaits to the edges of the boil. Striper anglers have been getting in on the boil action as well, and it’s been common to pull smallmouth, largemouth and striper from the same boil. Striper also went for trolled flies and cut baits throughout the lake. Catfish went for chicken liver, mackerel, and dip bait, and there’s a decent panfish bait on any live worm in the backs of coves.
