Water clarity is excellent, and the weed beds have almost completely died off

Pyramid Lake, CA - Caswell, CA (Los Angeles County)

by Chad Burton and Chris Borden

Pyramid remained at full pool, and the water temperature dropped below seventy degrees. Water clarity is excellent, and the weed beds have almost completely died off. Last week’s trout plant provided limit style fishing for a few days, but that bite has slowed. However, anglers reported plenty of trout swimming near the launch ramp. Trout ate dough baits, minijigs, mouse tails, and Thomas Bouyants. The bass bite has been slow overall, but there have also been reports from anglers doing very well on the fall bass. The bass are keyed in on shad holding in 15 to 30 feet of water near the weed beds. Small swimbaits, deep diving crankbaits, and jigs have been getting bites in deeper water, and Senkos, Ned rigs, and jerkbaits have been getting grabs closer to shore. Striper ate cut sardines and nightcrawlers in the Marina, Yellowbar, and near the island. Catfish anglers did well using dip bait, chicken liver, and cut baits.
