The Buena Vista trout opener occurred Tuesday, and fishing has been excellent. Anglers reported limit style fishing for trout to ten pounds in Lake Evans while using dough baits, Mouse Tails, Minijigs, and various trout lures. Carolina rigged garlic scented dough baits on light line seemed to get the most attention, but the greedy fish fell for numerous techniques and baits. With all the tout action there were few reports on other species. However, in years past the trout plants created good opportunities for bigger bass on trout imitation swimbaits, and weightless Senkos and crankbaits are always a good option at BV. Catfish anglers reported decent fishing for smaller whisker fish while soaking dip bait, fresh shrimp, and nightcrawlers.
