Castaic Lake Fish Report for 9-22-2023
Most anglers have been chasing striped bass at first light
Castaic Lake - Castaic, CA (Los Angeles County)
by Chad Burton and Chris Borden
Castaic Lake held at 93 percent of capacity, and water temperatures have been dropping due to the cool weather. Most anglers have been chasing striped bass at first light. The line-sides have been boiling on shad off main lake points and in the marina. Topwater, spoons, and small flukes have all been working until about 8 a.m. On overcast days the boils can last much longer. After the boils end trolling umbrella rigs and flies has been effective for a few more fish. Bass anglers also started the day with topwater lures, but the results have been mixed. Drop shot, Thin Senkos, and other finesse baits worked for bites in 5 to 20 feet of water, and green pumpkin, Aaron’s Magic, and baitfish colors have been good color choices. Catfish anglers did well with dip bait, chicken liver, and cut sardines.
