Castaic has been rising about 2 feet per week

Castaic Lake - Castaic, CA (Los Angeles County)

by Chad Burton and Chris Borden

Castaic has been rising about 2 feet per week, and currently the lake is at about 85 percent of its storage capacity. Water clarity has been excellent, and water temperatures remained in the upper sixties to low seventies. Large and smallmouth fishing has been good for anglers using drop shot, shaky heard and Carolina rigged 3 and 4” plastics in brown, dark green, and grey. Senkos and small paddle tailed swimbaits also worked to entice plenty of smaller grade bucks. Striped bass took A-rigs and trolled flies in 25 to 50 feet of water, and catfish ate just about any smelly bait and live worms on the bottom. Trout anglers cleaned up after recent trout plants with numerous reports of limits. Dough baits, spoons, and small jerkbaits all took good quality rainbows.
