Aqueduct anglers shifted to fishing at night to avoid the intense daytime heat. Catfish cooperated, filling stringers with one- to three-pound whiskerfish that eagerly took chicken liver and cut sardines. Striped bass reports slowed, likely because of the high daytime temperatures, but the bite remained consistent for anglers willing to fish early or late, with cut sardines and jumbo live minnows producing most of the catches. Lure anglers reported catching fish at first light on shad-patterned jerkbaits, Spooks, and tube baits worked slowly along the bottom. Bass anglers also found success during the evening hours with poppers, drop-shot rigs, and Senkos, although heavy slime hampered bottom-contact presentations in some sections of the aqueduct.
