Castaic was at full pool, and water temperatures were in the mid-70s. Most anglers reported decent fishing with little boil activity, although topwater action improved much later in the day. Finesse anglers caught plenty of one- and two-pound bass on 4-inch Roboworms in shad and Aaron’s Magic. Most of the smaller bass held shallow, while many of the better catches came from around 20 feet of water. Striped bass anglers blind-cast shorelines holding schools of shad, with the occasional 5-pound lineside providing the reward. Jerkbaits also produced bites in those same areas. Catfishing was fair for anglers using cut baits and dip bait. It should be noted that many of the guides at Castaic reported phenomenal fishing for all species when using live shad.
