The trout fishing on Big Bear Lake is great! Now that the wind has settled down and high pressure has built the trout are enjoying ideal conditions. Water temperatures are 53 degrees from top to bottom and uniform over the whole lake. With oxygen levels at 11 parts per million throughout the lake, the trout are just loving it.

Trollers with 2 to 3 colors of lead core in the water are scoring high numbers of fish, 20 per hour is not uncommon. The hottest lures continue to be the Helgy, Needlefish or Buoyant.. If you do not have lead core, trolling straight mono from a spinning reel, with jointed or countdown Rapalas will do almost as well.

Shore fishing remains good along the North Shore at Juniper Pt. to the east, Windy Pt. in the middle of the lake and near the dam on the west end. Use a sliding egg sinker system and present Eagle Claw Nitro, or an inflated night crawler off the bottom for some good action along the shore. Be sure to vary leader length from 2 to 4 feet until you find the zone the fish are feeding in.

Brian Gilmore of Upland took this nice limit of Big Bear Bows while bait fishing with Nitro and Night Crawlers from his boat in the mouth of Metcalf Bay.
