Lots of changes and varying conditions continue for Rainbow Trout fishing on Big Bear Lake. With cloud cover at times and bright sun the rest of the time the trout are up and down depending on the time of day. Trout can be found on the surface to only 2 colors of leadcore, in the early morning and late afternoon. Midday the fish are deep at 3 to 5 colors. CD Rapalas in black and silver flat lined on top, as well as, on the leadcore have worked best with spoons in copper the second best.

Weed growth has slowed down and oxygen levels have come up as a result. Over five parts per million of dissolved oxygen exist top to bottom on the west end of the lake allowing bait anglers to go back to a sliding egg bottom fishing rig. Look for these conditions to continue until an algae bloom depletes the oxygen. Drifting in a boat down the middle of the lake with a simple sliding egg sinker rig is a good way to spend a day on the lake. Put out 20 to 30 feet of line with Eagle Claw NITRO, and a night crawlers for good results.

Flexibility is the key now for trollers now. Gilner Pt. west to the dam have been the most productive this past week. Be sure to vary depths depending on the time of day and cloud cover. The trout could be up, they could be down, but they are there for you if you present the right lure, in the right color at the right depth.

Summer time species, Crappie, Bluegill and Catfish continue to show along weed beds and docks for the panfish and in the shallows of the east end for the whisker fish.
