This Sunday, October 7th,??is "Discover Marina del Rey Day" at Chase Park in Marina Del Rey.?? There will be plenty of activities in the park, so bring the whole family and enjoy a great day. This is a great day for kids and grand kids as there will be fun games, exhibits, petting zoo, free stuff and marine conservation education and awareness booths and even a kids fishing program.

Marina Del Rey Anglers will be using this event to publicize the Ocean Resources Enhancement and Hatchery Program (OREHP)??and plans to release the nearly 5,000 white seabass it has raised in it's MDR??White Seabass??Pens.?? MDRA has raised and released over 100,000 white seabass and the program has been responsible for releasing over 1,000,000 white seabass back into the wild.?? The OREHP and prohibition of drift nets has resulted in the white seabass fishery coming back from near extinction to a healthy and viable??fishery with frequent trophy fish over 40 pounds being caught by recreational and commercial fisherman.

MDRA??will begin??counting white seabass at 11am and then??stage a release ceremony.?? "It's really like a graduation ceremony," exclaimed Darrell Pickford, who runs the MDRA white seabass program.?? "We are so proud of our little white seabass and it's really emotional to see them graduate and swim free, hopefully to mature and further populate the ocean with these wonderful fish."?? After the "graduation/release ceremony, MDRA will host and??supervise a kids fishing program on the local dock, where kids can catch smelt, mackerel, and even an occasional halibut and white seabass.????Please bring your kids, grand kids and neighbor kids - they are??our future anglers.
