Fish Species: Striped Bass, Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Common Carp, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, White Crappie
Lake Perris, located in Riverside County, is one of Southern California’s most popular and versatile freshwater fishing destinations. Managed by California State Parks and the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the reservoir spans over 2,200 acres and supports a diverse and well-maintained fishery. Species available include largemouth bass, rainbow trout, channel catfish, bluegill, redear sunfish, and crappie. The lake’s ample structure—submerged islands, rocky coves, and artificial reefs—creates ideal habitat for both predators and forage fish.

Largemouth bass are the crown jewel of Lake Perris, with quality fish being caught year-round. Spring and fall offer the best action, especially near shoreline vegetation and drop-offs. Soft plastics, jigs, and topwater lures are effective throughout the season. Bass tournaments are frequently held on the lake, underscoring its status as a competitive bass fishery.

Rainbow trout are stocked in the cooler months and provide excellent action near the marina and dam. These fish are commonly caught using PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and small lures. Summer brings reliable catfishing in deeper water, particularly in the evening, with cut bait and stink bait being top producers.

Lake Perris is especially noted for its redear sunfish, which grow to impressive sizes due to an abundant food supply and warm conditions. These panfish are targeted with worms, crickets, and jigs near weed beds and submerged brush.

The lake accommodates both shore and boat anglers, with boat rentals, launch ramps, and multiple day-use areas. Anglers must possess a valid California fishing license and follow all posted regulations. With excellent amenities and fish diversity, Lake Perris remains a top-tier destination for anglers of all skill levels.
