Fish Species: Rainbow Trout
Kenneth Hahn Lake sees moderate fishing pressure, especially following trout or catfish stockings. Early mornings during the week offer the best chance for peaceful fishing.

The lake is open year-round and provides a rare slice of nature in the middle of Los Angeles, with enough fishing action to satisfy both beginners and local regulars alike.

Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area Lake, located in Baldwin Hills, is one of the most accessible and scenic urban fisheries in the Los Angeles area. Despite its modest size, the lake is stocked with rainbow trout during the cooler months and catfish during the summer, providing seasonal fishing opportunities for local anglers.

Rainbow trout are typically stocked from November through March by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. These fish are targeted using PowerBait, worms, or spinners along the accessible shoreline. The lake features paved paths and benches, making it ideal for seniors and families.

In summer, channel catfish are the main target. Anglers have success using cut bait, liver, and dough bait fished near the bottom during the cooler parts of the day. The lake also supports small populations of bluegill and carp that can be caught using worms or dough baits.

There is no boating allowed, and all fishing is from shore. With convenient amenities such as restrooms, shade, and picnic areas, Kenneth Hahn Lake offers a relaxing and productive escape for local anglers.

While not a trophy destination, it remains one of the top managed park lakes in Los Angeles for quick, accessible fishing.
