We unexpectedly had our third trout plant this past Friday! This one was supposedly around 2,000 lbs. of rainbow trout. We weren’t expecting one since we just had one the week prior, but we won’t complain! Since they dumped the trout in, anglers have been having good results. They stocked the main launch ramp so most of the trout have been caught around that area. Power-baits, trout mini-jigs, and Kastmasters seem to be working the best. If you get here nice and early you can manage a limit within a couple hours. The swimbait bite has been tough for anyone chucking big baits. Only a handful of fish have been reported since the first stocking. The stripers are still biting, but mainly in deeper water.  Spoons, ice jigs, and small shad swimbaits are working for some anglers. The key is to find a school of them, it’s difficult without a fish finder to say the least. Largemouth and smallmouth still are hard to find, but more and more anglers have been able to key in on what they want to eat. Some deep diving reaction baits, umbrella rigs, and small shad swimbaits have been able to produce a few bites. The good old drop-shot is still able to get you some fish, but it has been a tough grind even for a small limit. The catfish are making more of an appearance lately, with some decent sized fish caught off the West Ramp the other day. Bluegill and Crappie have been hard to target, and best bet is fishing the lagoon for these species.

It has been some tough fishing out on Castaic this past week. Most fish caught have been deeper and off finesse style baits. The largemouth and smallmouth have been difficult to locate, but anglers able to find schools of them are able to hook into a few fish. Some deep diving jerk baits and weighted swimbaits have also been working. Striper fishing has been tough as well with most fish coming off the troll or down deep on cut bait....... Read More
