The trout bite is solid, but not great. Look for the bite to pick up considerably as we head into next week and the first of three consecutive weekly plants. Brady Pesola of Carlsbad had the biggest trout of the week at 8.20#s caught on chartreuse powerbait on Senior Shoreline. The trout are hitting on jigs, powerbait, and inflated night-crawlers. They are catching trout from Crappie Rock to the West Buoys on the northern shore and in Oakvale Cove on the south side.

The bass bite is still fairly anemic with no big whopper bass caught in January. The water temperatures are beginning to warm up so hopefully February proves to be a better month. Largemouth Bass can be found around structure. They respond well to crawdads, swimbaits, and dark colored plastics.

The crappie have been scarce hiding out in deeper water. Crappie are most often caught on finger jigs or live golden shiners.

Shinna Menchaca of San Diego caught a nice 11.00# catfish in Oakvale Cove on cut herring & mackerel. Lake Wohlford cats prefer mackerel, or chicken liver, and are often caught near the west buoy line.

Trout fishing has slowed a bit. They are still catching fish, but limits are hard to come by. Wednesdays plant should rejuvenate things. Fishing has been best on the east end and in Boat Dock Cove. The fish appear to be in a little deeper water. Inflated night-crawlers, and mouse-tails, have been the top baits. The bass bite has been slow with only small to medium sized bass being recorded. Largemouth Bass can be found around structure. They respond well to...... Read More
