Quality fish have made a showing over the past couple weeks

Lake Isabella - Lake Isabella, CA (Kern County)

by Chad Burton and Chris Borden

The lake rose to 10 percent capacity and the South Fork Ramp remains as the only launching facility. Isabella was stocked a month ago with trout and the fishing has been slow. Trout can be taken with garlic scented Powerbait, spinners and worms. The largemouth bass action is decent over main lake points at depths to 35 feet. Quality fish have made a showing over the past couple weeks on swimbaits, deep-diving crankbaits, jigs and big worms. The catfish bite has been decent for some anglers and not so good for others. A few Whiskerfish were taken on Triple S Dip Bait, cut mackerel and nightcrawlers. Crappie fishing is fair, and they can be found over structure on mini jigs and small/medium live minnows.
