Over the last few days the fishing for just about every species has amped up.
Trout are being caught in decent numbers from both the shore and boats on the western half of the lake. All the usual floating baits are working in either case. Carolina rigs are still a favorite for anglers posted up on the bank. Slip bobbers set between 10 and 15 feet are the method of choice for those drifting out on the water. Trolling is always an excellent way to get bit, too. Small spoons on 2 to 3 colors of leadcore or little crankbaits that dive to the appropriate depth are the best options.
The bass action has been good as well. We recommend bringing a variety of both moving baits and finesse techniques. Start with something like a spinnerbait or chatterbait to cover water and find fish. Once you’ve located them, pick the area apart with a plastic worm on a shaky head or drop shot. Then move on to the next spot and repeat. Look for hard structure to target while the vegetation is still sparse.
The crappie bite is also better than we’ve seen for a while now. We’re still not really seeing huge numbers, but we are seeing HUGE fish as evidenced by the lake record changing twice over the last week! Artificial lures are the best way to make sure you lip hook them. This allows for a clean release so these big fish can make some big babies and bring our population back to historic levels. Mini jigs and small paddletails will get the job done.
Armando caught this 4.2 lb beauty at windy point on powerbait cheese.
