The trout bite remains very good at Corona Lake and there were two plants last week; Jess Ranch rainbows and trophy trout from Mt. Lassen Trout Farms, and Nebraska Tailwalkers are coming this week. The few anglers targeting catfish are also scoring. The trout bite was especially good for float tubers and boat anglers who could reach the mid-lake spots and the stream inlet area where a lot of the rainbows have been congregating in the clean water inflow. The top action has been on the green and chartreuse floating dough baits, with the light green garlic dough bait especially productive. Dipping any bait or lure in the garlic Crave Gravy has really improved catch rates, too. Top rainbow reported was an eight-pounder landed by Nick Giurar of Riverside fishing from shore with an inflated nightcrawler. He had three trout for a 14-pound total stringer. Oliver Youpa, Industry, and Mathew Andreanro, La Habra, topped off their stringer with a 5 1/2-pound rainbow fishing nightcrawlers from a boat near the dam. Billy Serrano, Menifee, had a 4 1/2-pounder to top off his stringer. Mathew Marchand, Fontana, picked up a pair of passes and finished his day with 10 trout for 18 pounds fishing from a boat with green floating bait.

Top catfish reported was a whopping 24-pounder landed by Josh Avila, Riverside, on shrimp while fishing from a boat on Friday. Avila returned on Saturday and had an 18-pound, five-fish catfish limit. Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes is $22. Seniors pay only $20. All of these passes have a five-fish limit. For kids 4 to 13, a three-fish pass is just $9. The 24-hour passes are available the weekend nearest the full moon each month, with the next overnight fishing set for Feb. 18-19. These passes cost $60 and anglers can bring a spouse and up to three kids to help fill the 24-hour pass 15-fish limit. Camping at Corona Lake is also free with a 24-hour pass. Tip To Remember: When the Santa Ana winds are blowing hard, Corona Lake is one of the best Lakes to fish. The mountains north of the Lake block nearly all the wind and the Lake is very fishable when all the other lakes are not.
