This week Lake Isabella increased to 48 percent of its storage capacity, with water temperatures now in the 50s. The bass bite has been solid, with anglers catching fish on 3/8- and 1/2-ounce football jigs in black and blue along with green pumpkin creature baits. Rapala black and blue Cleanup Craws and brown and purple jigs tipped with Chigger Craws have also been producing quality bites, while big swimbaits continue to be a good option for anglers targeting larger bass. Rocky Point, Engineers Point, and Piney Point have all been productive areas lately. The crappie bite is beginning to improve and become more consistent, with the best action currently coming from 15 to 20 feet of water. As temperatures continue to warm, crappie are expected to begin moving into shallower areas soon. Offshore structure has been holding large schools of fish, with anglers finding success using mini jigs and live shiners. The trout bite has been very good recently, with quality fish up to 4 pounds reported. Anglers have been catching trout on Get Bent Baits, Hook Up Baits, spinners, and garlic-doused pinched crawlers. The 35th Annual Lake Isabella Fishing Derby is scheduled for March 28-30, 2026. For more information, contact Cope’s Tackle or visit KernRiverValley.com.
