Castaic Lake rose to 90 percent of its storage capacity, and water temperatures remained in the low seventies. Bass anglers reported excellent fishing for one- and two-pound fish, with drop-shot rigs and weightless Senko-style baits doing most of the heavy lifting. Oxblood, green pumpkin, and salt-and-pepper were the staple colors for most anglers. Some anglers also found success with spinnerbaits and small jerkbaits after the wind picked up, and many reported 30-plus-fish days. The striped bass bite continued to improve, with several reports of anglers using jerkbaits to catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass, and the bite was expected to improve even more in the coming weeks. Catfish anglers also did very well in Elizabeth Canyon and Dry Gulch using cut baits, chicken liver, and dip bait.
