Castaic dropped to 84% of its storage capacity, and fishing was fair. Cooler temperatures and poor water conditions appeared to have finally stalled a months-long bite. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass moved into the 15- to 30-foot zone, where finesse baits in Green Pumpkin black flake, Aaron’s Magic and Margarita Mutilator produced some action. Reports indicated that anglers were beginning to switch to deeper presentations, including crankbaits, drop-shot rigs, and vertical spoons. Striped bass remained tight-lipped, with a few caught on jigging spoons and cut sardines, while trolling umbrella rigs was also somewhat productive. Catfish anglers did well with dip baits and chicken liver. Trout anglers landed a few rainbows on dough baits, and the two- to three-pound fish helped make up for the lack of numbers.
