The department of fish and game will be stocking the upper lake of Castaic with catchable sized rainbow trout the week of May 10, 2010. Largemouth fishing at both the upper lake and lower lagoon has been doing amazing. Largies are being spotted all over the lake and are now very easy to catch. Worms, plastics and some crankbaits are working everyday at both lakes. Any shad colored minnow works great all day, and most natural colored plastics are killing the largies all day. Any cove at the upper lake will have largemouth bass in it. The striper fishing has been pretty slow this past week, not too much to speak of. There are still some fish being caught back near the buoy line on anchovies and sardines. Most of these stripers are still small, like 1 to 2 pounds, but most anglers are catching limits of them. Fishing off of the dam for stripers hasn't really been the great unfortunately, but with the trout plant this week we are optimistic. The crappie bite at the lower lagoon is still doing very well. Anglers are using wax woms, red worms, night crwalers, and crappie jigs to snag a couple of panfish.
