Lake Isabella is currently holding at about 64% capacity. Crappie anglers continue to find success in 10 to 25 feet of water around submerged brush and timber, with sonar playing an important role in locating schools. Mini jigs, small swimbaits, and live shiners have all been producing quality catches. The largemouth bass bite has improved considerably as water temperatures continue to rise. Rocky Point, Engineers Point, Lime Dyke, and the 3 Crosses area have all been productive. Anglers are reporting success with green pumpkin creature baits, Rapala Mavrik deep jerkbaits in Pro Blue and Bold Shad patterns, chatterbaits, and larger swimbaits for bigger fish. Bass are holding around rocky structure and deeper ledges, and they’ve been responding to both reaction baits and finesse presentations depending on conditions and time of day. Trout fishing remains good, especially around the cemetery and North Fork areas. Early morning has been the best window before water temperatures climb. PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and a variety of artificial offerings have all been effective. Catfish action continues to be steady in deeper coves and channel areas. Chicken liver, clams, and nightcrawlers are all producing fish, particularly in the warmer, stained water where strong scent trails are helping attract bites. Bluegill are also active, with shallow areas near French Gulch Marina providing some of the better action.
