BASS
DVL is not closed! In fact it is wide open. The Bass have been in a feeding frenzy since DFG has dropped sub-catchables and the marina stocked Lassen rainbows. Large topwater baits and swimbaits have caught some big fish this week. Spooks, LA Sliders, and Zplugs have been the favorite lures. The east dam, the marina, and the west dam have been some of the widely reported hot spots. Shawn Cooley of Quail Valley released seven largemouth, his biggest at 7 pounds using Coolbaits. Chad Stern also released seven bass between 3 and 5 pounds fishing with Coolbaits. Marina manager Dave Neitzke got an opportunity to fish the lake for the first time catching a 9 pound largemouth fishing with a Zplug on the east dam. Mark Dominguez of Fullerton caught a 14.5 pound striper fishing the east shoreline with a Punk.

TROUT

The DVL trout opener has brought about an increase in catches, but the pressure imposed by the largemouth and stripers have slowed the bite. Those who did catch trout this week used Kastmasters, Roostertails, or mini jigs. The east dam has been the best spot for trout.

STRIPER

The Striper bite was wide open this week. Zplugs, BBZ's, the Triple Trout, and LA Sliders caught some big striper's this week. Matt Thompson of Hemet got two stripers at 14.95 and 15.59 pounds fishing with LA Sliders in the marina. Josh Baldwin of Temecula got a 14.5 pound striper fishing in the marina with a homemade plug. Paul Thompson of Hemet caught a 19 pound striper fishing the west side of the lake with a swimbait. Shawn Cooley of Quail Valley caught three stripers at 12, 15, and 19.6 pounds fishing with a Triple Trout swimbait. Jim Dixon of Hemet caught two 12 pound stripers fishing with a Zplug on the north shore. Dave Neitzke of Hemet caught a 13 pound striper fishing with a Zplug on the south corner of the east dam.

CATFISH

There is still a catfish bite at DVL. The Inlet tower, the east dam and behind restroom 2 have been the best spots for catfish. Nick Vaughn of Hemet got a 7.25 pound catfish fishing with a crocodile lure near the inlet tower. Congratulations to Jason Walsh of Temecula who exceeded the previous catfish record by ten pounds. The weight to beat is now 42 pounds 9 ounces. Jason was fishing with an LA Slider near the Inlet tower.

PANFISH

Panfish have been moving away from the banks and becoming harder to find as the water temperature drops. There have been a few notable catches this week. Live worms or mini jigs usually are the best baits for panfish.
