Castaic Lake held at 81 percent of its storage capacity, and the water was gin clear prior to the recent storms. Water temperatures were in the upper fifties. Fishing was good, with most anglers reporting a few fish and others landing more than 20 in a day. Largemouth and smallmouth bass were the best bets, with finesse baits in shad, brown, and dark green leading the bite. Fish held from 10 to 30 feet deep, and some anglers reported spawning bass along the flats. Striped bass remained available for anglers trolling umbrella rigs, while jerkbaits and spoons also fooled the zebras. Rainbow trout to five pounds were reported throughout the lake, and many of the behemoths responded not only to Powerbait, but also to a variety of bass lures.
