Lake Isabella is currently sitting at approximately 38% of capacity. The CDFW has a scheduled trout plant at Lake Isabella next week, and early signs are encouraging as one of our contacts reported catching over 10 trout earlier this week up to 5 pounds using a 1/16-ounce jig head paired with a 2-inch Keitech. Anglers have also been finding decent trout action near Reds Marina while throwing spinners, garlic-scented Powerbait, and mini jigs. The 35th Annual Lake Isabella Fishing Derby is scheduled for March 28–30, 2026. Crappie action has been hit or miss, with fish suspended in 20 to 30 feet of water and holding near offshore structure. Live shiners and mini jigs continue to be the most reliable offerings for targeting these deeper slabs. The bass bite remains on the slower side, with the best action coming offshore as anglers dropshot 6-inch Roboworms in Margarita Mutilator, Oxblood, and Green Pumpkin. Key areas to focus on include Rocky Point, Piney Point, and Engineers Point. Offshore catfish action has been decent, with anglers locating schools of shad in 50 to 70 feet of water and finding whiskerfish nearby. Vibrating jigs have been effective when fished through marked bait schools.
