The lake held near 80 percent of its storage capacity, and water temperatures ranged from 60 to 63 degrees throughout the day. The bite has not fully taken off at Castaic yet, but some local regulars reported good action, with anglers catching around 40 bass in eight hours. Most anglers landed five to ten fish while fishing small finesse baits on drop shot or Carolina rigs. Baby bass, Aaron’s magic, and watermelon patterns produced bites, and weightless Senkos continued gaining traction. Most bass held in 10 to 15 feet of water, although some fish were up shallow. Anglers reported better success drifting and slowly dragging baits with the wind instead of fighting it. Striped bass were best for anglers trolling umbrella rigs in 25 to 50 feet of water. The key was locating schools with electronics, trolling through the area, and then moving once the bite tapered off. Catfish anglers picked up fish near the West Ramp using cut baits and dip bait.
