Aqueduct anglers reported good striped bass fishing, with catfish and bass providing a solid backup plan. Striped bass between Buttonwillow and the I-5 area took cut sardines, nightcrawlers, and lugworms near check gates. Worms worked well when allowed to churn in the heavy current, while cut baits were effective either on a heavy weight or with the locals-only “walk the dog” technique. The old aqueduct standby white Fluke on a jighead also produced fish. Catfish were eager for chicken liver and cut baits in areas with slower-moving water, and largemouth bass took Senkos and Texas-rigged 6-inch straight-tailed worms in green and brown colors.
